In the Mix

Peonies, daffodils, dogwoods, and hyacinths: spring and summer darlings cause a colorful stir

Pink Lady

“My favorite thing here is the peonies,” says floral designer Kit Bennett. “They bloom from about mid-May to June, but they don’t grow here in Charleston, so they have to be flown or driven in. As for the other blooms, I used yellow to tie everything together because it’s in the center of the peonies.” Flowers: calla lilies, freesias, hypericum berries, irises, and peonies. Wrap: double-faced ivory satin with pearl-headed pins. Lotus Flower ($175); (843) 534-2837.

Sunny Days

“I see this at an outdoor wedding that’s heavy on Southern influences like gingham tablecloths, rocking chairs, and sun
bonnets,” says floral designer and event coordinator Luke Wilson. “Woodsy florals, like daffodils and forsythia are great because they are bright without being garish.” Flowers: daffodils, forsythia, hydrangeas, hypericum berries, and narcissus. Wrap: gingham ribbon with pearl-headed pins. Fleur ($140-165); (843) 693-2373.

Purple Reign

“This bouquet is for an outdoorsy, organic woman who’s looking for sophistication with a twist,” says designer Lisa Thomas.
“I really like its combination of masculine and feminine elements—cedar pine cones and soft feminine flowers, respectively—which is what a wedding is all about.” Flowers: anemones, cedar cones, cedar roses, hyacinths, lisianthus, maidenhair fern, muscari, seed eucalyptus, and roses. Wrap: purple velvet ribbon and green silk. Out of Hand ($148); (843) 856-3585.

Woodsy White

“Because dogwoods only bloom for a couple of weeks in April, they are a special and fleeting spring treat,” says floral and event designer Heather Barrie-Ahern. “To continue the natural feel of the bouquet, I created a twig handle, accented with moss and a single dogwood blossom.” Flowers: dogwood, lisianthus, hypericum berries, and yellow stock. Wrap and stem: green double-faced satin ribbon, moss, and twigs. Gathering Floral + Events ($200-250); (843) 723-3387.
